CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh affirmed on Saturday that 35 of the 117 party tickets in the 2017 assembly elections will be allotted to the youth.

He was speaking at an event to announce the merger of the Youth Organisation of India (YOI) into the Congress. More than 100 youth workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), too, were also inducted along with four sarpanches, two block samiti members, and an Akali councillor from Jalalabad. The YOI activists were led by their president, Rajwinder Singh Dhanola.

“As suggested by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, 35 youth will be given ticket in the coming elections based on their hard work and contribution to the party, not any kinship or relationship,” Amarinder said, appealing to the youth to join the political process.
