PATIALA: Once in race with Amarinder Singh for post of president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), senior Congress leader Lal Singh urged the party high command to declare Amarinder Singh as party’s CM candidate for 2017 state elections.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Lal Singh said that with the high command declaring Sheila Dixit as Congress’ chief minister candidate for Uttar Pradesh, it’s high time that the party should announce the candidature of Amarinder.
“Though it is a set tradition in Punjab that PPCC president always become CM, if Congress comes to power; however, in the personality cult era of politics, high command should announce it at earliest,” he said.
When reminded about that he was once in race for PPCC president’s post, Lal Singh said that “That was personal ambition, but party decision is always supreme. I am a discipline solider; and as per wishes of party workers, I have made demand of Amarinder’s announcement as CM candidate of party”.
The senior leader also said if the party implements ‘one family one ticket’, his son would not contest from Samana and only he (Lal Singh) would fight for the seat from Sanaur.
