Cong confident of winning two-thirds majority

Chandigarh : A high-power committee of the Punjab Congress, which met here on Saturday, expressed confidence that the party was set to win two-third majority in the coming elections scheduled to be held in 2017. “There is a massive groundswell against the ruling Akali-BJP alliance and only the Congress was in a position to provide better governance and government,” PPCC president Amarinder Singh told the meeting.
The meeting was presided over by the AICC in-charge for Punjab affairs Asha Kumari and was attended among others by Chairperson of the campaign committee Ambika Soni, former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and other senior leaders of the party.
Briefing the committee, the PPCC president maintained that there was an overwhelming response to the party programmes being held across the state.
Asha Kumari said that she had got lot of positive feedback from the grassroots level workers. She expressed satisfaction over the unity shown by the party rank and file in the state.
Detention of minority cell head flayed
CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh on Saturday condemned the detention of the Minority Department chairman, Mohammad Dilbar Khan, in Khanna. Capt said that Khan was scheduled to address a press conference at Phagwara to appeal for peace and brotherhood among different communities after communal tension there. He added that it was strange that the police did not allow him to do that and instead detained him. The PPCC president demanded his immediate release.
