Abohar : Several Congress councillors on Tuesday joined Abohar MLA and state party vice-president Sunil Jakhar in registering a protest against the alleged political bias in processing applications under the Food Security Act for blue cards.
They met the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amarjit Singh and claimed that 32,000 persons in Abohar subdivision had last year submitted applications under the Food Security Act but only 18,000 Blue Cards were issued, and that too, at the behest of SAD and BJP workers.
He alleged that the ruling coalition had politicised the process. He said the Food Security Act, notified by the UPA government, had the provision of covering 75 per cent of rural and 50 per cent of the urban population but in Punjab, only those who were ready to toe the line of jathedars and saffron activists got blue cards.
The councillors today submitted about a thousand applications, mostly of Dalits. The SDM assured them that those would be the examined.
