Chandigarh : Selective leaks of video footage of speeches of the Akali leaders — recorded during the March 2016 Vidhan Sabha session — now being used for campaigning has snowballed into a major controversy with CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi today threatening to expose the alleged wrongdoings.
He has sought the video footage of his speeches during the session and alleged that while those of the CM Parkash Singh Badal on the SYL issue and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on the power issue were available, the same were not being supplied to him.
Channi has sought the footage of his speeches of the session held between 2007-16. “How is the footage of Akali leaders was available? It needs to be probed,” said Channi.
Instead, his request was placed as an agenda item in the General Purpose Committee scheduled for today. But Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Mohan Mittal postponed the meeting.
Mittal said the meeting was postponed as notices could not be sent to Chairmen of 15 Vidhan Sabha Committees. “There is no provision under the present rules to supply video footage to the MLAs,” he said.
