Capt promises to restore honour, dignity of state ex-servicemen

Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday promised to restore the dignity and honour of the ex-servicemen after the Congress forms the government in the state.

Capt Amarinder was addressing an ex-servicemen convention at the Pradesh Congress headquarters here on Sunday.

He also launched a special helpline for the ex-servicemen where they can register their problems.

Responding to their demands, the PCC president said, “The ex-servicemen will be given due recognition and representation in the government.”

He agreed with their suggestions that the ex-servicemen needed to be in the government to appreciate and understand their problems better.

Capt Amarinder said that during his previous tenure he had given special instructions to the police and civil officials that they must treat the serving and ex-servicemen with all the honour and dignity they deserve failing which action would be taken against them.

Responding to a demand, he said, “The Congress government will accord priority to the ex-servicemen in the allotment of tube-well connections.”

Earlier, Col Bhag Singh (retd) listed various demands of the ex-servicemen, including the gross disparities in the one rank one pension scheme.

Besides, he demanded the implementation of the double pension for the ex-servicemen notification for which has been withheld by the Badal government.

Addressing the convention Lt Gen T S Shergill (retd) exhorted upon the ex-servicemen to strengthen the hands of Capt Amarinder and spread the message that only he can save Punjab. He told them, besides being one of them, he was known to do what he committed.

Also, Maj Gen S P S Grewal gave the details about the activities being done by the ex-servicemen wing of the party. He said, the ex-servicemen were reaching out to each village and closely coordinating with the local leadership.
