Sangat Mandi (Bathinda) : In a strong and powerful message to party workers that he was standing by them, Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh in his characteristic combative style on Monday stormed the local police station to protest against the registration of a false case against one of the party workers, Baldev Singh, who broke down while narrating his story during the ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme here.

He also warned the police officials against registering false cases. “Respect the uniform you are wearing and ensure that you resort to no injustice at the behest of the Akalis, whose days are numbered now,” he told police officials while accompanying Baldev Singh to the police station.

“I have nothing personal against you, but if I find any of you having harassed or victimised any of my party workers, it will be more than personal for me and I will neither forget nor forgive it,” he told the police in a stern warning, while adding that, “all those police officials found guilty of having framed the Congress workers must be ready for going to jail, along with their Akali mentors”.

Amarinder left his ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme midway after an elderly party worker Baldev Singh broke down while narrating the story of the persecution and false case registered against him allegedly at the behest of Akali leaders and went to the police station concerned.

The PPCC president disclosed that Baldev was booked in a false case after a scuffle between two groups of people in November 2015, just because he was a Congress supporter. He said while the police claimed that he had been booked for a non-bailable offence, he was harassed so much so that he had to get bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He said Baldev was being victimised since his daughter Harsimrat Kaur had contested election as a Congress candidate for the zila parishad elections.

Captain then met the local SHO and DSP and raised the matter, who gave Capt the assurance that it would be resolved within 10 days.
