Chandigarh: Chairperson of the Punjab Congress election committee Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has condemned the incident of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at a California gurdwara in the USA. She said it was deplorable and reprehensible, hence should be condemned by all.

In a press note here on Friday, the senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister said earlier such incidents had taken place in the state as a result of which there was tension and anxiety among people. Bhattal said there seemed to be a deep-rooted conspiracy to disturb peace in Punjab ahead of the 2017 assembly elections. She said such incidents could have a fallout in the state.

Bhattal said the Congress would not allow such anti-national forces to succeed in the state. She appealed to the state government to be more vigilant on this front since religion was a sensitive issue.
