Chandigarh : Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sindhu met Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence, amid speculation that he will not be joining the party on the eve of Independence Day.
Sidhu, who had resigned both from Rajya Sabha and the BJP in July over the party of ‘ignoring’ Punjab, was expected to join the AAP on August 14. Although it was said Sidhu would be the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate, the AAP had ruled out the possibility, saying he was likely to be designated as the star campaigner for the assembly polls slated for next year.
There is some doubt on whether this proposition would be acceptable to Sidhu, who apparently wants more say in party affairs and the distribution of tickets in Punjab. It appears that the AAP offer was not agreeable to Sidhu and the meeting with Kejriwal took place in this context.
