Patiala : As the political battle lines are drawn in Punjab for the forthcoming assembly elections due in 2017 and all the Political Parties have geared them up to face the challenge of the elections the Congress Party also started working for the selection of its candidates. As a number of aspirants for the party ticket’s have applied to make their fortune.

On the other hand, as far as Patiala is concerned for Patiala Urban seat PPCC Chief and former Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh has emerged as a lone ticket seeker as now another party leader has come forward to claim the party ticket. Interestingly the royal family imposed a ban over it as the Congress Party has announced to follow the formula of ‘One Family One Ticket’ as two other members of the family Preneet Kaur, sitting MLA and her son Raninder Singh alias Tikku have not applied for the party ticket this time (as per the party and sources close to the family) and both have decided to stay away from the coming elections. It may be mentioned here that during the last assembly elections the royal family faced a vertical split when Preneet Kaur stuck to get one party ticket for her son Raninder Singh from Samana assembly seat and got the ticket of her brother-in-law, Raja Malwinder Singh who later played a decisive role in Samana assembly seat as he joined the Shiromani Akali Dal with a single mission and worked against Preneet Kaur. It was because of his efforts and political settings Raninder Singh alias Tikku tasted defeat from the hands of Surjit Singh Rakhra.
