Patiala : The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday suffered a political jolt as the Tohra family announced parting of ways with the party.

The announcement in this regard was made by son-in-law of Panth Rattan late Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Harmail Singh Tohra on Friday.

It may be mentioned here that Harmail Singh Tohra turned rebel when party president Sukhbir Singh Badal removed him from the post of Halqa in-charge of Patiala Rural seat and appointed Satbir Singh Khatra in his place. Sukhbir had said that this was an exercise to bring in young blood to serve the party in near future. But Tohra had a different view and took it as ticket denial for the Tohra family. Though he never came forward with an open reaction over the political development so far, but stayed away from the party till recently.

On Friday, Harmail Singh Tohra openly stated that party president Sukhbir Singh Badal was giving preference to those who could spend money in the forthcoming elections and this was not acceptable to him.

Upon being asked his next step, he claimed that he was in touch with like-minded and would work for the welfare of the state as well as its people.
