Patiala : A year after he was suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi is set to float a political forum.

Dr Gandhi said he was in touch with several prominent politicians of the state, adding that the announcement about the forum would be made in Chandigarh next week.

On Rakhar Punia last year, Dr Gandhi and Fatehgarh Sahib MP Harinder Singh Khalsa were suspended after they failed to turn up at the party’s rally at Baba Bakala and went on to attend a parallel meet held by party volunteers. Though Dr Gandhi was served a show-cause notice, he had sought the hearing of his case by the ‘Lokpal’ of the party. However, the party’s national disciplinary action committee is yet to take a call on the matter.

Dr Gandhi clarified that he was not planning to form a political party. He said the forum would be a platform where like-minded people could come together and fight the evil and corrupt forces in the state. “The pressure group we intend to form might eventually take the shape of a political party since Punjab needs an effective regional outfit that cares for the interests of the people,” he added.

Claiming that the AAP high command was “treating Punjab as a colony of Delhi and humiliating the Punjab leadership,” Dr Gandhi said he was free to go anywhere since he had not sold himself to AAP.
