SAS NAGAR: The Congress is gearing up to hold protests outside deputy commissioner offices in all parliamentary constituencies in Punjab from August 26, demanding waiver of loans to the framers. The party has coined ‘Kisan se insaaf karo, sara karza maaf karo’ slogan for the campaign.

“I am heading an agriculture committee that will hold dharnas across the state, demanding waiver of farm loans,” said former Punjab Congress chief and Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa.

All prominent faces of the party, including state chief Capt Amarinder Singh, Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari, Rajya Sabha member Ambika Soni, former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, are expected to show up at the dharnas.

All the Lok Sabha segments will be covered in phases on weekly basis and the campaign will conclude with a showdown in Delhi where Rahul Gandhi will be present.

Addressing a press conference here, Bajwa said, “Punjab is undergoing a severe agrarian crisis. We demand waiver of each and every penny of the `57,000-crore debt. When the Modi government at the Centre can waive off the loans of big industrialists, why not those of farmers?”

He said, “If the Congress is voted to power, we will bring an ordinance to restrain the banks, arhtiyas and money lenders from changing the title of land to recover loan.”
