Shahkot (Jalandhar) : To protest against the alleged high-handedness of the state police, which had allegedly slapped false cases against AAP volunteers protesting peacefully against the supply of contaminated water in the villages, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday announced to hold a ‘rally’ in the village of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Minister Ajit Singh Kohar on August 31.
An announcement in this regard was made during the dharna organised by AAP at Shahkot against slapping false cases on demonstrating AAP volunteers.
The dharna was addressed by state AAP Convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur, head of the Youth Wing Harjot Bains, party’s Spokesman Sukhpal Khaira, senior party leader Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, National Secretary Organisation Building Durgesh Pathak, National Executive Member Yamini Gaumer, General Secretary of Youth Wing, Sukhdeep Singh Apra and AAP’s candidate from Sultanpur Lodhi assembly segment Sajjan Singh Cheema.
It is pertinent to mention here that one person was killed while over 50 across four villages in Shahkot were hospitalised after drinking contaminated water being supplied to the villages from an overhead tank and AAP leaders were protesting against this, when they were arrested by the police. “We will not tolerate such high-handedness of police officers, who are acting like puppets of SAD to please their political bosses,” AAP leaders said while vowing “we will take SAD head-on, if they will stoop so low in politics.”
