Chandigarh : Leader of the Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi lodged a protest over not being extended an invite for VP Singh Badnore’s swearing-in as the Punjab Governor here today.

Channi said the snub was an attempt by the SAD-BJP government to undermine the importance of his post.

“I am writing a protest letter to the new Governor and the Vidhan Sabha Speaker,” he said.

Sources in the government said the invite had been sent to all MLAs, but not separately to the Leader of the Opposition (who is also the CLP Leader). Some Congress MLAs were present at the ceremony.

“It is not the first time that I have been ignored. I have not yet been provided a road-worthy vehicle, unlike my predecessors. Being a Dalit leader, I have been highlighting the poor representation of SCs in the Punjab Public Service Commission, but the government has been ignoring the matter,” Channi said.

The CLP Leader claimed that he was also not invited during the visit of the Commonwealth delegation to the Vidhan Sabha today. The issue was raised by some Congress legislators.
