Chandigarh : A day after Leader of the Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi protested over not being extended an invite for the swearing-in ceremony of Governor VP Singh Badnore, the latter called him up to inquire about the matter. The Governor asked Channi to meet him.

Several Congress MLAs and PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh were present at the ceremony, but Channi, also the CLP leader, was conspicuous by his absence.

Meanwhile, taking a serious note of the snub, former CLP leader Sunil Jakhar and Amarinder said the Congress would raise the issue at the highest level.

Seniors ignored at swearing-in: Cong

Patiala: Former Deputy Speaker of Vidhan Sabha Bir Devinder Singh has demanded a probe into the various violations of the protocol at the Governor’s swearing-in ceremony.

“Deliberately ignoring Channi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, amounts to demeaning of the institutions of parliamentary democracy. Capt Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister and sitting MP from Amritsar and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament was also not accorded the dignity he deserved,” he said.
