LUDHIANA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Punjab government and the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) of misconduct and irregularities in the installation of unipoles and pasting pictures of the chief minister and the deputy chief minister on flex boards containing advertisements in the city on Friday.
A unipole on Ferozepur Road in Ludhiana on Thursday.
Ludhiana West AAP candidate Ahbaab Singh Grewal and trade and transport wing sector in-charge Ravinderpal Singh Pali alleged that the government has installed over 80 unipoles and the advertisements of Badals were displayed on these unipoles without floating any tender thus causing a huge loss to the cash-starved municipal corporation.
“How can the MC allow the Badal government to display their advertisements on these unipoles when no tender was floated in this regard,” he said.
Grewal alleged that the state government was indulging in shameless self promotion at the cost of tax payers’ money. The whole process of installation of unipoles has been done in a shady manner, he said.
“AAP will follow the MC and the government through the right to information (RTI) route to get information in this regard and we will take the legal course of action to prevent loot of taxpayers money just because the SAD-BJP government wants to indulge in self promotion, ”he claimed.
MC commissioner Ghanshyam Thori denied all the allegations levelled by AAP. He said that 80 unipoles were installed after floating tender as per norms.
He added the advertisements are of the state government but these are not the advertisements of Shiromani Akali Dal.
He claimed that the government can display these advertisements on the unipoles. The government will pay `1.25 crore for advertisements on 80 unipoles for five months, he said.
