Chandigarh : Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab unit convener and former minister Sucha Singh Chhotepur’s going in the party seems to have got tough with a number of his colleagues, seeking his expulsion from the party, which is eyeing power in Punjab. The state has been under the SAD-BJP rule for over nine years and goes to polls early next year.

Party MPs Bhagwant Singh Mann, Prof Sadhu Singh, Himmat Singh Shergill, Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and others have written to AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to sack Chhotepur from the party after a sting operation purportedly showing him asking for money from someone against the party ticket.

Chhotepur, who has been with Kejriwal through all these years braving all odds, is likely to clear his stand on the sting operation here on Friday. According to sources, Kejriwal is not keen to act against him in a hurry, but at the same time wants him to clear the air in view of raging controversy after the alleged sting operation surfaced. Sources said that a lot will also depend upon how Chhotepur deal with controversy.

Recently, he stirred a hornet’s nest by questioning the party’s decision over the selection of candidates for the coming Assembly polls in the state. If Chhotepur’s detractors have their way, then he might be replaced by Shergill. Chhotepur has also accused the leadership of not maintaining any account in Punjab. Late in the evening, Chhotepur issued a statement expressing his anguish and pain over the development.

Points raised in LETTER TO KEJRIWAL

Highly upset and disappointed to see reports in regards to acceptance of bribe by Sucha Singh Chhotepur.

Such an act by the convener of a party formed to eradicate these practices, not only affects us morally but also emotionally.

‘Outsiders from UP engineered coup against Chhotepur’

Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday condemned dirty tricks resorted to by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana against the son of the soil Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who nourished and nurtured the party right from the day of its conception in Punjab.

“The sting operation has clearly been conceived, planned and executed as part of an internal coup engineered by the AAP leaders from outside who want to control Punjab through remote by using their local stooges and inconsequential wannabe leaders,” Captain said while referring to the so-called sting operation against Chhotepur.

He suggested to Kejriwal to also look into the monumental transformation in the lifestyle of leaders like Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak since they started their political career in Punjab. In a statement issued here, Capt Amarinder while strongly defending Chhotepur saying he knew him for the last 35 years, asked the AAP to explain the massive expenditure running into hundreds of crores of rupees the party incurred during last two years in Punjab Sources said that a section of Congress leaders are keen to welcome Chhotepur to the party fold if he agrees.
