PATIALA: The non-implementation of new National Pension Scheme (NPS), in effect since 2004, at Punjabi University, is set to snowball into a major issue, as the Congress leader and local MLA Brahm Mohindra has decided to rake the issue in the Punjab assembly.
“There are two questions; who is responsible for delay and secondly where the money deducted from salaries of nearly 2,000 people recruited after 2004, has gone?” said Brahm Mohindra.
He said the authorities, must come clean on it, as various teaching and non-teaching employee unions have met him and asked him to raise matter in Vidhan Sabha.
Mohindra condemned the state government for not giving enough grants to the varsity, which is only university in the country, formed and named after a language. “The contribution of Punjab government has come down from 80 percent to 18 percent of university’s budget,” said Mohindra.
He said as the university was facing financial crunch, the government must release `200 crore in excess for varsity to clear its dues of NPS. The faculty members and non teaching staff have decided to observe September 5 (Teachers’ Day) as ‘black day’.
