CHANDIGARH: Former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief and Akali leader late Gurcharan Singh Tohra’s son-in-law Harmail Singh Tohra and daughter Kuldeep Kaur Tohra joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday.

Joining the AAP in the presence of the party’s state in-charge Sanjay Singh and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, Harmail, a former Akali minister, lambasted Sukhbir and accused him of ignoring Taksali Akalis.

“There is no place for honest and dedicated politicians in the SAD and many Taksali Akalis are feeling suffocated under Sukhbir’s leadership,” said Harmail. He, however, added that he was not seeking a ticket from the AAP and had joined the party unconditionally.

“I am inspired by the policies and programmes of AAP, and confident that the party will provide neat and clean governance in Punjab,” Harmail said.

“I am pained that the Akali Dal has decided to give the party ticket from Patiala rural to a person who is not even a primary member of the party,” he said. His wife Kuldeep said her family had greatly contributed to the rise of Sikhism in Punjab.
