Chandigarh : Congress will hold the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP government in the dock in the coming Vidhan Sabha session for all its failures and the sins of omission and commission. The party also called all its MLAs to ensure their presence all through the session.
A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) was held here on Thursday, which was presided over by CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi and attended among others by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh, AICC Secretary in-charge Harish Chaudhry, senior leaders Sunil Jakhar, Laal Singh, Ashwani Sekhri, Kuljit Nagra, Rana Gurjeet and others.
The leaders were of the unanimous opinion that although it was a brief session, the party legislators will have to make best use of it. They pointed out, the SAD-BJP government had failed on all fronts and it was the right time to expose them in the Vidhan Sabha.
The major issues listed included the farmers’ suicides, the drug scourge, denial of blue card to the BPL families affiliated to the Congress and the law and order. The leaders also deliberated upon the loot resorted to by the SAD-BJP government of the state’s resources like sand, etc.
Later talking to reporters, Capt Amarinder and Channi disclosed that the SAD will find it difficult to answer and explain their sins of omissions and commissions during the last five years.
Capt Amarinder said that the entire legislature party will be present in the Vidhan Sabha come what may to take on the government. He said that his party will not allow the alliance government to use its brute numbers to browbeat the Opposition.
Replying to another question about the recent developments in the state, the PCC president said, the Congress was already firmly in the saddle and it did not need to depend on the falling fortunes of other parties.
“I have always believed and maintained that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is a myth and it has already started to explode,” he said, while replying to a question about the implosion and corruption charges being leveled by the AAP leaders against the senior leadership from Delhi.
Make Justice Zora SIngh panel report public: Jakhar
Chandigarh: Congress has demanded that the Justice Zora Singh (retd) panel report on the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village and firing at those protesting the incident at Behbal Kalan be made public.
Talking to reporters at Congress Bhawan here on Thursday, Congress chief spokesman and vice-president Sunil Jakhar said it needs to be questioned what standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being followed by the state police when it comes to dealing with law and order situation.
“No one has been indicted or held accountable for opening fire at protesters at Behbal Kalan and killing two. There were many women in the protest but the panel has not held anyone guilty. We want a discussion in the state assembly on who authorised the firing,” Jakhar said.
