Abohar : Congress state vice-president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday slammed Akali workers for “hooliganism” at the rally organised by the Aam Aadmi Party in Malout, 30 km from Abohar.
“The SAD is degrading democratic values in the state ahead of the elections as it is apprehensive of its defeat courtesy its false or unfulfilled promises, besides other factors,” he said.
While lambasting SAD leaders for allegedly attacking political opponents in Malout, he said it was not a sudden outburst but a “well-hatched conspiracy” aimed at demoralising AAP activists and to discourage people from attending anti-government rallies in future. “It does not appear to be a clash but was certainly an attack by goons of the ruling party on an opposition party,” he added.
Jakhar said everybody had the right to speak or express themselves in a democratic society but the Akali workers were perhaps being asked by their “bosses” to threaten the common man by indulging in clashes. The police too, “under their diktat”, did not intervene, he alleged.
