Amarinder assures 33 pc chairmanships to Dalits

Chandigarh : Asserting that the Congress alone has watched and safeguarded the interests of the Dalits, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday assured that 33 per cent chairmanships will be provided to the Dalits. He also said that all communities will get due representation in ticket distribution.
Addressing a ‘Dalit Outreach’ programme organised by the SC Cell of the PCC here on Monday, Capt Amarinder said, he was aware of the problems being faced by the Dalit community. He said, the SAD-BJP government has discriminated and victimised the Dalits and during his meetings with workers he had found that they were not even being provided the blue cards even.
The PCC president reiterated that the Congress government will increase the Shagun scheme to Rs 51,000. Besides, he added, the Dalit households will be provided 300 units of power free.
Speaking on the occasion the CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi said that no political party in Punjab can watch the interests of Dalits better than the Congress. He pointed out, not only was the CLP leader nominated from the Dalit community, one of the three Rajya Sabha members was elected from the SC community.
AICC in-charge for Punjab Asha Kumari said only the Congress watched the interests of all sections of the society.
Capt promises arthias to give back every penny while waiving off farmers’ debts
Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday assured the arthias of the state that the Congress government will take care of their interests while waiving off the debt of the farmers. “You will receive every penny that is due to you from the indebted farmers,” he told a delegation of arthias that met him here on Monday.
“The government will own up the entire debts and pay the money to those including both the arthias and the banks,” Capt Amarinder clarified, while adding, by waiving off the debt the party means to free the farmers’ of their burden while watching and safeguarding the interests of the lenders be those the arthias or the banks.
The PCC president maintained that the farmers and arthias had a generational relationship with each other and the Congress government will watch the interests of the both.
“It is not that we will provide benefit to the farmers at the cost of the arthias, who have equally suffered during the last ten years,” he assured the arthias, while adding, rather the arthias deserve added incentives for bearing with the farmers who have been unable to repay their debts.
Mass contact programme to engage 20 lakh people
Punjab Congress will launch ‘lok-sampark’ (mass contact), programme from September 19 to reach out to at least 20 lakh people across the state. The programme will continue for 40 days and each of the 117 assembly segments will be covered at least thrice and five programmes will be held in the constituency. This was decided at a meeting held here on Monday which was presided over by the PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh. The state has been divided into 13 Parliamentary segments. All senior leaders will address these programmes.
