Chandigarh : The extended Badal family will be on the hit list of the Opposition Congress in the last session of the 14th Vidhan Sabha that begins tomorrow.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his two brothers-in-law, Adaish Partap Kairon and Bikram Singh Majithia, will be targeted by the Opposition, who wants to use the session to bring the first family of Punjab on the mat.

After a rather dull show in the Budget session, the Congress is looking at resurrecting itself by taking on the government over some key issues. Sukhbir will be targeted for cutting down state’s own power generation to buy power from outside, “urban mess” created with his alleged poor quality infrastructure development works and non-creation of 1.24 lakh jobs he had announced in November last year. The main issue will, however, be the poor law and order situation in Punjab in view of the killings of important religious/political personalities and gang wars and the alleged inability of the government to deal with it.

Kairon, say the Opposition members, will be questioned regarding the “food scam” and the state’s inability to get the cash credit limit for the procurement of foodgrain released from the banks in time.

He is also likely to be targeted for the alleged bias against Congress supporters while increasing the number of blue card holders.

The third key member of the extended Badal clan, Bikram Singh Majithia, will again be targeted over the drug issue, say senior Congress leaders.

Though the session has been convened for seven days – till September 14, the session will be effectively for three days. The first day will be restricted to obituary references, while constitutional amendment Bill to ratify the Goods and Services Act is expected to be brought up on September 9. The proceedings of the House will be finally decided by the Business Advisory Council of the Vidhan Sabha tomorrow. At least 14 important Bills will also be brought up.
