CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday showed the way to bag a Congress ticket — delete competition by winning over other Congress contenders and Akali rivals.
Addressing a press conference on Monday while inducting senior Akali leader Jagjivanpal Singh into the party, Amarinder announced party’s first candidate as Ramanjit Sikki from Khadoor Sahib. Amarinder said Akali leaders were leaving the “sinking ship”. He said Congress contenders for the Khadoor Sahib seat had also withdrawn their names, leaving Sikki in the fray.
He also announced Lakhvir Singh Lakha as the candidate from the reserved constituency of Payal in Ludhiana. The Youth Congress candidate had lost to septuagenarian SAD leader and assembly speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal in the 2012 polls.
