Chandigarh : After the success of AAP Kisan rally at Bagha Purana, Congress has also planned to organise a mega rally at Moga soon. The target of gathering has been fixed at 5 lakh.
Disclosing this here on Monday, PCC president Captain Amarinder Singh told media persons that Rahul Gandhi will be addressing the proposed rally. He said the rally is likely to be held in first week of October but the date will be finalised according to the convenience of Congress VP Rahul Gandhi. He also said that not only Rahul, but Sonia Gandhi will also visit Punjab for preparation for the 2017 polls.
Capt Amarinder Singh also said that the latest survey conducted by an independent agency has revealed that the Congress was far ahead of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party.
He said, while the AAP was placed second in the survey, eventually the contest will be between the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance as the disillusionment with AAP was growing day-by-day. He pointed out, both the Congress and the SAD have their assured support base which AAP lacked as it was depending upon the floating vote only. Quoting the survey, Capt Amarinder told a group of reporters here on Monday, that if elections were held right now, Congress will bag about 51 per cent votes, while the AAP will bag 31 with SAD-BJP alliance at around 18 per cent.
However, he added, while the survey report came recently, it was done a few weeks ago after which so much has happened with the AAP as the party has virtually imploded since then and broken into two parts on the issue of Punjabis and outsiders.
He said, the survey showed the popular sentiment as people have realised that the Congress was the only option that can provide stable government which can retrieve and redeem Punjab from bankruptcy.
