Chandigarh : Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh said here today that the Assembly elections would be a fight between his party and the SAD-BJP combine, adding that the rift within AAP was widening day by day.
He claimed that the surveys by government agencies had put the party’s vote share at 51 per cent, way ahead of AAP’s 31 per cent and the alliance’s about 18 per cent. Amarinder said the Congress and the Akalis had a committed vote bank, which AAP was depending upon the “floating vote”.
He said Rahul Gandhi would be in Punjab in the first week of October to address a mega rally in Moga. Party president Sonia Gandhi will also visit the state, once she recovers from an injury, he added. Dismissing the contention that Navjot Singh Sidhu’s front would eat into the Congress vote share, Amarinder said it would rather hit the Akali vote bank.
He said Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari, MLAs Preneet Kaur and Karan Kaur Brar would leave for the UK on September 24 to interact with the NRIs.
