JALANDHAR: Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday joined the protest of the district Congress leaders against the state government over the condition of the Jalandhar-Kapurthala highway at Basti Bawa Khel.
The protest was organised by Congress councillor Sushil Rinku, who is one of the contenders for party ticket from Jalandhar West constituency. The work on the four-lane project on this highway has not moved forward since deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal laid the foundation stone in 2014. The people of Basti Bawa Khel were agitated due to the delay even after completion of the sewer work.
Addressing the workers, Captain said it was because of the SAD-BJP government that people were facing such problems and the Badal government was not bothered about their problems. He said when the Congress would form the government after the assembly elections, he would look into this project and complete it soon.
