BATHINDA: With a purpose to strike chord among the voters of Bathinda (urban) assembly segment ahead of 2017 Punjab assembly polls, senior Congress leader Manpreet Singh Badal, tried to attract the city residents by raising local issues on Monday.

Addressing a gathering of party workers, as part of the rally under ‘Congress Liyao, Punjab Bachao’ campaign, while starting specially designed minibus called ‘Punjab Congress Express’ for holding nukkad meeting, at the Mall Road here; Manpreet attacked the ruling SAD-BJP alliance on local issues and promised people to make these a part of the Congress manifesto for the assembly polls.
Manpreet Badal will lead a team of the party leaders including MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti and party leader Nirmal Singh Nimma in Punjab Congress Express to hold the meetings in all nine assembly segments, under Bathinda parliament segment, under this campaign.
He addressed four such gatherings in the assembly segment.
To woo the residents living around the upcoming solid waste treatment plant on BathindaMansa Road, who are against the project due to the foul smell emanating from the plant, ever since it started functioning on trial-basis.
Manpreet promised to shift the plant from the present location.
Targeting the state government on its failure to construct the international cricket stadium for which a foundation stone was laid by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on his birthday in 2007, Manpreet said that Congress, if it forms government, will construct the international stadium in Bathinda.
With the city residents suffering during the rainy season due to water logging, Manpreet said that the problem of sewerage will be addressed, at any cost.
To woo the voters residing near the railway lines, Manpreet said that a park will be set up in 30 acres of land along with a fuel station.
He said that Congress manifesto will have two parts.
“In one part, the party will elaborate on its vision on the major issues that the state is facing such as farmer suicide, unemployment, drug abuse,” he said.
“A separate manifesto will be prepared for every assembly segment, which will be annexed with the main manifesto, highlighting the issues of the assembly segments,” he added.
Attacking the SAD-BJP government, he said that if Congress forms the government in the state, it will bring an end to sand, drug, cable and transport mafia, which is prevalent.
He also stressed on unity among the party cadres to ensure a win in the upcoming assembly polls.
