Jalandhar : Punjab Congress official spokesperson Sunil Jakhar on Sunday sought a CBI enquiry into the food grain scam, after the ruling SAD-BJP alliance approached the RBI to convert the outstanding payment of Rs 21,000 crore towards the state against the food grains as ‘soft loan’ promising to repay it in installments.
Jakhar while demanding a time bound CBI enquiry said that by pleading their case with the RBI to convert the outstanding Rs 21,000 as soft loan, the Punjab government has admitted that food grains from Punjab’s godowns went missing.
Addressing a press conference, Jakhar said that there was a huge gap between the food grains procured by the centre and the stock of food grains available with the state government. “As per the report of PUNGRAIN, last year, the state government has utilized 3,319 trucks for loading grains. However, CAG brought to the fore that out of these 87 vehicles turned out to be fake. As many as 15 vehicles in this list were scooters and motorbikes,” he said.
The senior Congress leader also blamed the Centre government of shielding the Badal government and converting the outstanding Rs 21,000 into soft loan for their obvious vested political interests.
Further, lashing out at the Punjab government, Jakhar said that actual amount of this scam was Rs 29,000 crore.
