BATHINDA: The ‘kisan bus yatra’ of Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh couldn’t have hit Bathinda city at more opportune time on Tuesday when the market was abuzz with the activity on the eve of festivity of Karwa Chauth.
The yatra with the campaign message of ‘Karza-Kurki Khatam, Fasal Di Poori Rakam’ to reach the farmers, seems to have best served the purpose in Bathinda (urban) assembly segment for the party.
The yatra on its second day reached Bathinda city on Tuesday evening when people, especially women, in large numbers had thronged the market for making purchases to celebrate the Karwa Chauth festival on Wednesday.
“The timing of the yatra was best suited for the city as people in large numbers had come out in the markets in the evening. The most important aspect is that women were in market which serves the party’s purpose of such activity more,” expressed a party leader.
Congress leaders and workers from city as well as villages welcomed yatra at several locations across the city.
The yatra passed through busy markets including Dhobi Bazaar, Mall Road and Amrik Singh Road.
Flanked by youth party workers on motorcycles and stalls put up by workers at different locations, Captain waved hands to the crowd from his specially designed bus.
Captain also paid homage to Subedar Nand Singh at his statue at Fauji Chowk. Nand Singh, also a recipient of Mahavir Chakra, was awarded the Victoria Cross for his service in second world war.
