CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s independent member Hardeep Singh on Friday sought clarification from the Aam Aadmi Party on the Sikh community’s demand of an amendment in Article 25 (b) of the Constitution that describes Sikhs as part of the Hindu religion.

Hardeep sought an assurance from the AAP that if it comes to power, it will adopt a resolution in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for pressing the Centre for the amendment. “Kejriwal is running away from discussion on the core issue of Sikhs as a minority,” he said.

He also wanted from the AAP to reserve 85% jobs for Punjab youth in industrial sector on the lines of Himachal Pradesh. “The Punjab’s demography is changing drastically as its unemployed youth and families in large numbers are migrating abroad, while the people from other states of the country are settling here,” he said. He also demanded that the AAP should take a stand on declaring Punjab a dry state.
