CHANDIGARH: Condemning the brutal killing of a soldier near the Line of Control, Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday expressed horror and rage at the inhuman act, which he said appeared to be designed to provoke the Indian forces.

Mandeep Singh, a soldier with the 17 Sikh Regiment, was killed and his body mutilated while he was out on patrol ahead of Kala post at the Machil sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning.

Even as he urged the Union government to take up the matter with the Pakistani authorities, Amarinder made it clear that if those guilty of this heinous crime are not punished by the Pakistani government, the Indian Army might be forced to take matters into its own hands.

SUPPORTS AGITATING EMPLOYEES

Extending his support to Suwidha Centre employees, whose protest entered 55th day on Monday, Amarinder demanded withdrawal of cases against protesters registered on October 14 when they were canecharged and booked for attempt to murder in Muktsar. “If the Badal government fails to cancel the cases filed against the protesting employees, the Congress will also join their agitation,” he said.
