Chandigarh : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) suffered a setback with senior Akali leaders and former MP Rajya Sabha Varinder Singh Bajwa joining the Congress party along with his supporters on Thursday.
Besides this, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP’s) Shri Hargobindpur convenor, Harvinder Pal Singh also joined the Congress in the presence of Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief of Punjab Congress, Asha Kumar, AICC general secretary and incharge Punjab affairs and some other senior leaders. Captain Amarinder Singh welcomed the new joinees to the party fold, describing the development as a sign of the total loss of confidence by Akalis in the corrupt Badals and complete disillusionment with `outsider’ AAP. Bajwa joined the PPCC after resigning as an SAD political affairs committee member. He also accused the SAD of being controlled by mafias and having no concern for the governance of Punjab. After joining the Congress, AAP leader Harvinder Pal Singh thanked Amarinder Singh.
Another SAD leaders who joined include SAD general secretary Ram Parkash (brother of Kabir Das who recently left Punjab Congress to join the Akalis), Hardev Singh, member of SAD working committee and Zila Parishad, TR Sarangal, a (retd) IAS officer, and Harjinder Rehal, general secretary SAD, Hoshiarpur.
