Chandigarh : Accusing Badal government of manipulating police recruitment drive, Punjab Congress on Friday alleged that over 6.5 lakh unemployed youths have been duped of worth Rs 25 to Rs 30 cores in the process.
Punjab Congress Vice president Sunil Jakhar, alleged that Police Department duped unemployed youth of the money by collecting application fee, ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 400 per candidate from them for participating in the recruitment drive.
Even after charging application fee, the department, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal who is also holding the portfolio of Home Department, manipulated recruitment process. Moreover, competent, fit and eligible candidates have been ignored and those recommended by jathedars and their close associated were given jobs, he added.
To lodge a protest against the unfair and opaque recruitment drive in the police force, youth wing of Punjab Congress has decided to hold a statewide protest from Monday at all district headquarters, informed Jakhar while addressing media persons here on Friday.
The Congress will also confront Sukhbir Badal, ministers and Akali Dal MLAs at their functions after November 19, he disclosed adding that Sukhbir Badal has announced to provide jobs to 1.13 lakh unemployed youth on November 19, 2015, a year ago.
