Captain complains to EC against Badal government

Chandigarh : The Punjab Congress has complained to the Election Commission against the ruling SAD government for not abiding by Commission’s directive to check police-criminal nexus and misuse of official machinery.
Punjab Congress Committee Chief Capt Amarinder Singh in a complaint to the commission has alleged that the state government has failed to abide by the Commission’s directives to hold free and fair elections in the state.
Capt has also demanded imposition of Model Code of Conduct without any further delay to curb rapidly increasing criminalisation and rampant misuse of official machinery by Badal government.
In his complaint former Punjab CM has stated, “Despite your explicit instructions to check the police-criminal nexus and to put an immediate stop to the misuse of official machinery to promote vested political interests, Badal government in Punjab continues to indulge in anti-people activities, negating all possibility of holding a fair and free election in the state.”
He also added that the reign of terror let lose by goons, criminals and mafia working in direct nexus with the ruling SAD continues unabated, with new incidents being uncovered every day to expose the complicity of Akali leadership in cases of criminalisation and lawlessness in the state.
The complaint also cited several recent instances to show how blatantly the Punjab government was nurturing the criminal-politician nexus and underlined the need for strong EC measures to bring the situation under control. It referred to the arrest of a BJP leader from Mansa in an illicit liquor case, as well as the murder of an ex-serviceman in Moga following an argument over illicit liquor sale.
The Punjab Congress president also highlighted the increasing atrocities on Dalits to underline the importance of urgent EC intervention to check the growing lawlessness in the state. The complaint also cited the brutal torture of a Dalit youth in Tarn Taran and the beating up of five members of a Dalit family by a head constable in Moga.
The complaint also expressed serious concern over the misuse of the official machinery by the Badal government to promote its political interests and, in this context, mentioned the launch of 100 mobile vans for the state government’s health awareness campaign.
