New Delhi : Finalising the criteria for nomination of candidates, the Congress today said there would be no guarantees of incumbent MLAs being repeated in their seats unless the winnability factor favours them.

Congress’ Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari told The Tribune that the party had decided to field only one candidate from one political family in Punjab and bar sitting MLAs from swapping seats on grounds that they cannot win from their incumbent segments. Swapping will only be allowed for 34 reserved Assembly segments in the state, if required.

With these criteria on the table, the Congress today scheduled the first meeting of the Punjab Election Committee for November 19 and 20 to short list candidates for Punjab screening committee which former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot chairs.

The screening committee held its first meeting in Delhi today with PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh informing Gehlot that the PEC would be ready with the short list of candidates by November 20 after which the screening panel will formally meet.
