Chandigarh : The Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh announced that his party would bring a new legislation to save Punjab waters if it forms government with two-third majority.
Former Chief Minister, Punjab, Capt Amarinder also assured that the state would be released from the clutches of corrupt and mafia-led Badal government that had been looting Punjab for the past 10 years.
He made the announcements at a rally organised to mark the 10th anniversary celebrations of the creation of Barnala district in Barnala on Saturday.
Extending Congress party’s support to the aggrieved industry, which was being forced to flee Punjab under the Badal misrule, Capt Amarinder said several relief measures would be announced in the Congress manifesto for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Accusing the Badals of failing to protect the interests of Punjab on the SYL Canal issue, he said, “We have to teach them a lesson.”
Accompanied by Congress leaders, including Asha Kumari, in-charge of Punjab Congress affairs, Kewal Singh Dhillon, legislator Barnala, Capt Amarinder also promised to waive off property tax charges for those with income up to Rs 2.5 lakhs per annum and lower the same for other sections of the society.
The PPCC chief assured the public that free power subsidy in the state would continue. Tea and sugar would be added to the commodities currently being given to the people under the ‘Atta Dal’ scheme.
Coming down heavily on the Badal family, he also announced to throw the Badal father-son duo, along with Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, out of the Punjab borders.
Lashing out at Badal for his ‘sangat darshans’, where “God knows how many cheques are passed every day,” Capt Amarinder said no effort would be spared to bring the Akali leaders to book.
Referring to the Transport mafia being run by the Badals, along with cable, sand and other mafias, the Punjab Congress leader asserted that his government would snatch the transport network from them and hand it over to the unemployed youth of the state. He reiterated his promise of one job per family once the reigns of Punjab are in the hands of his party.
Recalling the historic, 300-year-old association of his family with Barnala, former Punjab CM, blamed the Akali government for preventing the development of the district due to ‘vendetta.’
On the occasion, Punjab BJP Beopar Mandal president, Naib Singh Kala, along with 200 of his supporters, joined the Congress after leaving the BJP. Capt. Amarinder welcomed them into the party fold, along with Budh Ram, who quit the Akali Dal to join the Congress. The Barnala Rajput community also extended their support to the Congress at the rally.
Cong: SAD using SGPC to convert money
Amritsar:The Punjab Congress has strongly reacted to the demand of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) seeking grace time to exchange its demonetized currency. The Congress has alleged that by seeking more time for the purpose, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has been making an attempt to convert black money into white by using the religious body SGPC.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) leaders Lali Sukhjinder Singh Majithia, Gurjeet Singh Aujla and Harpreet Singh Ajnala, in a joint said that the SGPC had exposed itself by writing to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley seeking more time to sort out the donations it had received in demonetised notes before instructions to the contrary were issued. They also urged the Union Finance Minister not to accept the SGPC request on this issue.
