CHANDIGARH: Two former independent legislator brothers, the Bains brothers of Ludhiana, who had resigned from the Punjab assembly last week over the SYL canal controversy, announced an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday. The AAP has given the brothers five seats to contest, the details of which will be announced soon.
Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjeet Singh Bains had joined hands with cricketerturned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and former hockey captain Pargat Singh to form ‘Awaaz-e-Punjab’ in September only to go their own way now. The AeP is likely to merge with the Congress in the coming days.
The brothers had recently floated their own political party—Punjab Insaaf Party— and it will field candidates on five seats in the coming polls.
Announcing their alliance at a joint press conference here on Monday, Bains brothers said their candidates, including themselves, will fight the polls on their own party symbol. Simarjeet represented Atam Nagar and Balwinder was a legislator from Ludhiana (South).
Aam Aadmi Party’s in-charge for Punjab affairs Sanjay Singh and state convener Gurpreet Singh were also present.
