Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was running away from Punjab following his “flop” rallies and protests by his own party workers on the pretext of some urgent work in Delhi.

Kejriwal, who is on an 11-day tour of Punjab, on Thursday decided to skip three days of the visit to attend proceedings in a court case in Delhi. “Kejriwal will not be addressing party rallies slated for November 26, 27 and 28 as he has to appear in a court case at Delhi and had also summoned a cabinet meeting,” a party spokesman said here. However, Kejriwal will address the party rallies on November 29 and 30 before winding up the Punjab visit, he said.

“Having failed to stand by the people of the state on the critical issue of the SYL canal, Kejriwal was now rubbing salt on their wounds by deciding to leave in the middle of his scheduled rallies. Though some media reports suggested that Kejriwal had to go to Delhi to attend the defamation case against him, it was clear that the SC orders refusing to stay the matter had come as a godsend to the AAP leader. The next date of hearing in the case was yet to be announced, which indicates that it was a mere excuse for the ‘bhagoda’ AAP leader to leave Punjab at the peak of his election campaign,” Amarinder said.

SAD SLAMS DELHI CM

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) also attacked Kejriwal saying that he abandoned his Punjab tour and fled to Delhi owing to “corruption” charges made against him and “hostile” reception given to him by Punjabis over his stand on the SYL canal issue.

Senior Akali leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said immediate reason for cancellation of the 11-day tour of Delhi CM was the revelations of corruption made against top AAP leaders in which he (Kejriwal) had also been made a party.
