Party leaders claim Sidhu will also join soon-We are like one soul in two bodies. The body has to follow the soul. How long can soul stay without the body? NAVJOT KAUR SIDHU, on husband Navjot Singh Sidhu joining Cong.

Even as the suspense continues over the next political move of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu and former hockey captain Pargat Singh joined the Congress on Monday.

Congress leaders have so far maintained that Sidhu will also join the party soon and that the modalities are being worked out.

The joining of Navjot Kaur and Pargat is being projected as a big boost for the Congress ahead of the next year’s Punjab assembly elections.

Asked about her husband’s entry into the Congress, Navjot Kaur said: “We are like one soul in two bodies. The body has to follow the soul. How long can soul stay without the body?

”Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh also indicated that the TV personality would follow his wife. “If Mrs Sidhu is here, do you think Mr Sidhu is not going to come to us?” he said. “I have neither met him nor spoken to him. He is still in Mumbai. We will discuss it when he comes to Delhi,” Amarinder told reporters at the Congress headquarters in Delhi.

Navjot Kaur, who had been elected to the Punjab assembly from Amritsar-East constituency in 2012 on a BJP ticket, insisted that she had joined the Congress unconditionally and will accept whatever responsibility is being assigned to her. She quit the BJP in October.

On the other hand, Pargat had won the 2012 assembly elections from Jalandhar Cantonment on a SAD ticket. He quit the party in September this year, accusing Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal of betraying the trust of the people of the state. Pargat resigned from the assembly over the SYL canal issue on November 16.

Along with Bains brothers and Pargat, Sidhu had formed a new political outfit Awaaz-ePunjab in September. The Bains brothers announced an alliance with the AAP last week.
