Moga deputy commissioner Kuldeep Singh Vaid has decided to bid farewell to his bureaucratic career, reportedly to enter the political fray. A 1992-batch Punjab Civil Services officer promoted to Indian Administrative Services in 2007, Vaid on Monday sent his resignation letter to the Punjab chief secretary, seeking voluntary retirement on personal and family grounds. His retirement was due in 2021.
Sources said Vaid is close to senior Congress leader, especially former Union minister Buta Singh, due to which the party has decided to field him in the 2017 assembly polls. “As Vaid hails from Ludhiana, he is likely to contest from Payal, Gill or Jagraon assembly segment,” they said. Vaid, however, is keeping his cards close to his chest. Vaid said if he gets a chance to jump into the politics, he will definitely go for it and work with full dedication. “I have a passion for doing something different for my country, and if my plans succeed, I will definitely try to bring a positive change to our system,” he said. BABUS IN THE FRAY Ahead of the Punjab assembly polls, Kuldeep Singh Vaid is not the only bureaucrat having political aspirations. The SAD has already announced the candidature of ex-IAS officers Darbara Singh Guru from Bassi Pathana and SR Kaler from Nihalsinghwala. Also Congress MLA from Nathana Ajaib Singh Bhatti and BJP legislator from Phagwara Som Prakash —both former civil servants — are likely to contest again.
