BJP secretary RP Singh submits a complaint to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh in Amritsar on Wednesday.

Jalandhar/Amritsar : In a fresh trouble for AAP MP Bhagwant Mann, the BJP today accused him of sacrilege.

BJP national secretary RP Singh lodged a formal complaint with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh along with a clipping of the AAP MP where he was seen laughing away after “distorting” a verse of Guru Granth Sahib during a performance while sharing the stage with Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander.

The video appeared to have been shot a few years ago. It showed that as Sikander was about to recite the verse “Raj karega khalsa, aaki rahe na koi,” Maan snatched the mike from him and said, “Raj karega khalsa, marasi (folk performer) rahe na koi’.

RP Singh claimed that it was a clear case of sacrilege as the sacred Gurbani had been distorted. “A murder committed many years ago is still a murder,” he said. However, Singh clarified that he had come to the Akal Takht to seek action against Mann in his “individual capacity” as a Sikh, not as a political leader.

Giani Gurbachan Singh said the content of video clipping was found to be objectionable in which derogatory caste-based remarks too were used. “The matter will be taken up during the next meeting of the five Takht heads scheduled for December 12,” he said.

Mann could not be contacted for comment.
