Celebrities in race for Congress ticket

Chandigarh : Not only turncoats and youth, certain Punjabi artistes are also in the race for Congress ticket for Punjab Assembly elections 2017.

Apart from Muhammad Sadique, a sitting Congress MLA from Bhadaur constituency, Sufi Singh Hans Raj Hans, who unsuccessfully contested 2009 Lok Sabha Elections on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) seat from Jaladnahar, Balkar Sidhu, who contested Talwandi Saboo bye-elections in 2014 as an independent candidate and Satwinder Bitti who joined Congress in June 2016, are also among the ticket aspirants.

Sources disclosed that Mohammad Sadique, who defeated an IAS officer Darbara Singh Guru of SAD in 2012, was seeking party ticket this time also. He has emerged stronger than Guru, who had challanged the Sadique’s election in the High Court. The Apex Court had later stayed High Court’s order against him.

Noted Punjabi singer, actor and politician Sadique is often seen in almost every event of Congress that Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh presides over.

Though Hans claims that was not in the ticket race, sources, however, revealed that his name is also among the ticket seekers from Jalandhar district. Hans has a strong vote bank and considerable fan-flowing in Jalandhar.

Balkar Sidhu is eyeing party ticket from Maur constituency while Bitti is finding it comfortable contesting from Sahnewal seat.
