Chandigarh : Amid reports of Shiromani Akali Dal MP from Ferozepur Sher Singh Ghubaya switching over his loyalty to the Congress, a team of Vigilance Bureau (VB) officials has conducted raid at his college—Ghubaya College of Engineering and Technology, Sukhera Bodla in Fazilka district. “The raid was in fact conducted on Monday itself but the operation was on till Tuesday evening,” confirmed Sher Singh Ghubaya, while speaking to Daily Post over phone.

According to Ghubaya, the college has an enrollment of about 600 students including those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC). VB team had a complaint regarding discrepancies in the scholarship scheme of the SC students. “They will be able to find nothing illegal as we have kept all records updated on the website,” said Ghubaya.

Explaining the issue, he said: “There are some leaders in my party who are involved in illegal trading of sand. I used to oppose them for their deeds so they now want me to get trapped.” Asked about the reports of his family members joining the Congress, Ghubaya rejected the same, stating: “It is again the handiwork of my rivals within the party, who spread the misinformation through their selective channels.”

“I am in Delhi as the Parliament Session is going on. My wife is at home and son is out of the state. None of us had any word with the Congress leadership even on Tuesday evening,” claimed Ghubaya. However, the SAD MP mentioned that he had staked claim over the party ticket from any of four border seats of Ferozepur and Fazilka districts but he was not very optimistic to get the ticket. Asked if he would join the election campaign of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Ghubaya was not found very positive, as he said: “I am at Delhi.”
