Chandigarh : Terming the opening of Badals’ hotel “Sukhvilas” in a joint venture with the Oberoi group as “illegal” and against the spirit of law of land, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said as per the norms of the Environment Department, the Oberoi group could not run any commercial hotel on the particular piece of land.

“Badals attained the permission from the Environment Department to construct Metro Eco Green Resorts on the land (reserved for forest) through illegal way,” alleged Dinesh Chadha, head, RTI wing of AAP.

He added that as per the norms of the Environment Ministry, Badals had no authority to transfer the land to any third party without the permission of the Central government.

“Even in the Punjab’s eco-tourism policy, under which the permission was granted to Badals, it is clearly mentioned that the project would not be completely commercial,” Chadha said, claiming that contrary to the norms, the name of the hotel has been kept as Oberoi Sukhvilas Resorts & Spa, which means a commercial activity.

He alleged that the Badals had falsely shown the land allocated to “Kinnow Orchard” as barren land to initiate the project in an illegal manner. He added that by doing so Badals had not only violated the rules, but also denied small farmers their legitimate dues.
