Ludhiana : With the name of singer-turned-politician Satwinder Bitti finalised for Congress ticket from Sahnewal, factionalism was witnessed in the constituency as well as in the family of Bitti.

Karnail Singh Kailey, father-in-law of Satwinder Bitti was also among top contenders for the Congress ticket from Sahnewal. However, he was denied the ticket, which has led to cracks developing in the family.

Punjabi singer Satwinder Bitti joined Congress few months ago and emerged as candidate from Sahnewal constituency. With the support of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president (PPCC) Captain Amarinder Singh Bitti has held several public meetings and her name was almost finalised as the candidate from Sahnewal constituency.

Kailey was upset as he was active in constituency from last many years but his daughter-in-law who started activities only a few months ago was finalised for the ticket.

However, the list of candidates is yet to be released but the singer-turned-politician is already facing revolt in her family as well as local party leaders.

Sources said that Bitti left the house of her in-laws and started living in house of her relatives at Pirthipur village in Sahnewal constituency. Veteran Congress leader Karnail Singh Kailey has reportedly maintained distance from the campaigning of his daughter-in-law Satwinder Bitti after which, the probable Congress candidate parted ways.

In 2012 Assembly elections, Karnail Singh Kailey was the contender for the Congress ticket but the ticket was allocated to Vikram Bajwa, son-in-law of former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. This time Vikram Bajwa was denied ticket after the Congress decided to give one ticket in one family.

Meanwhile, the other contenders for Congress ticket from Sahnewal constituency were exploring options after the formal announcement of Satwinder Bitti as Congress candidate. The Congress leaders have also written a letter to party high command against Satwinder Bitti.
