NewDelhi : The Punjab Congress continues to draw veteran politicians from across the party lines. Former Akali Dal leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal, a close associate of Bains brothers, met Captain Amarinder Singh here on Thursday and expressed his desire to join the party along with his supporters.

Independent councillor from Ludhiana, Kamaljit Singh Karwal, who runs his own forging business, met Capt to express his full allegiance with the party, which he said offered the only succour for Punjab’s aggrieved people.

Associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) since 2007, he had won Municipal Corporation elections in 2012 on party ticket but had quit the party during Lok Sabha elections in 2014 along with Bains brothers.

In January 2015, he rejoined SAD, accusing the Bains brothers of being disloyal. However, he soon became disillusioned again with SAD and decided to quit the party in favour of Congress.

Extending his welcome to karwal and his supporters, Capt Amarinder said they will be formally inducted into Punjab Congress in Chandigarh.
