Swords, sticks, bottles fly at Captain’s New Moti Bagh Palace

Patiala : Two student splinter groups clashed in front of the residence of Punjab Congress chief and former Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh at New Moti Bagh Palace here on friday. One of the student’s identified as Prince was taken away by members of the other group and received injuries.
The injured had been admitted in government Rajindra Hospital for medical treatment and The victim alleged that as they were going to join the Congress, their rival group members attacked them with swords, sticks and soda bottles on the instance of a local Akali Dal Leader.
When the attack took place Preneet Kaur, former External affairs Minister and MLA, was present inside New Moti Bagh Palace.
Sensing trouble main gate of New Moti Bagh Palace was immediately closed and police had to beef up the security.
The Police immediately swung into action and reached the incident site and entire area was cordoned off. Stones and bottles were recovered from a van parked nearby the palace. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP-City-2) Hans Raj said that so far nobody has come forward with a complaint and no statement has been recorded with the police.
On the other hand Superintendent of Police (City), Satbir Singh Atwal said that the investigation into the matter is in progress and the police have rounded up three persons.
Preneet Kaur alleged that the attack has been handiwork of Akali Dal’s Halqa In-charge who has backing of police. She even spoke to the DGP Suresh Arora over the issue.She claimed that the Akalis are under pressure to see their defeat and are hence adopting such tactics.
The Halqua In-Charge of Akali Dal and President of Youth Akali Dal Malwa Zone, Harpal Juneja meanwhile refuted all such allegations and said that Congress is leveling baseless allegations.
