Notice to Punjab on Langah’s plea

Chandigarh : The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday issued notice of motion to the State of Punjab on an application filed by Sucha Singh Langah seeking suspension of conviction.
Mohali Special Judge has awarded three years’ imprisonment and Rs 1.1 crore fined to the petitioner in a case filed by the Vigilance Department, Mohali against him. He said in the application that the order of the Special Judge, Mohali is against the law and facts. The notice has been issued for December 20.
It has been submitted in the application that Langah is a former Cabinet Minister of Punjab and at present he has been given ticket by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections. Langah further submitted that he has been fielded by the Shiromani Akali Dal from Dera Baba Nanak constituency in Gurdaspur district and the present conviction would be an impediment for him and he would not be able to contest the election if the conviction is not stayed.
Langah prayed that during the pendency of appeal the conviction of the appeallant i.e. Sucha Singh Langah may be stayed.
